In 1956, the Company was formed as a sales representative agency for manufactures of ingredients used in the production of animal feed, pet and companion animal food, and pet treats. In the 1950s, progressive nutritionists were looking for ingredients that could best balance the nutritional components of the commodity ingredients in use at that time. As the industry grew, the level of nutrition improved as these feeds and foods became more sophisticated, and Bill Barr & Company expanded the level of service to customers to include the distribution of critical ingredients as well as their representation.Bill Barr & Company is proud to have been on the leading edge of new ingredients and remains so today. We were one of the first companies to represent amino acid manufacturers in their bid to balance the protein requirements as well as produce lean meat more efficiently. Ajinomoto, a manufacturer represented since 1970, was the pioneer in the commercial use of L-Lysine, a common ingredient by today's standards, Threonine and Tryptophan. Bill Barr and Company is more recently working to insure the maximum savings possible with the successful formulation of Ajinomoto Heartland's Lysine, Threonine, Tryptophan and Valine.
